Verify the download

Each release has a SHA-256 checksum file attached. To verify after downloading: 

shasum -a 256 -c Bocan.dmg.sha256

macOS Gatekeeper does this automatically the first time you open it, courtesy of the stapled notarisation ticket. The checksum is for people who like belt and braces.

Install

  1. Open the disk image.
  2. Drag Bòcan.app onto the Applications folder.
  3. Eject the disk image. Burn it ceremonially if you're feeling old-school.
  4. Open Bòcan from Launchpad or Spotlight.
  5. Point it at your music folders. It'll do the rest.

Homebrew

Prefer the command line? Add the tap once, then install: 

brew tap bocan/bocan
brew install bocan

Sparkle handles updates inside the app automatically. If you'd rather let Homebrew drive, brew upgrade --greedy bocan does the same thing from the terminal.

Auto-update

Bòcan ships with Sparkle 2. It checks for updates daily by default, silently, in the background, with EdDSA-signed verification. Turn it off in Preferences if you don't want that. Choose the Beta channel if you want fresh paint and occasional broken windows.
